Exploring identity, life transitions and relationships to help you live more authentically and build a Kinder connection with yourself

Who are you beneath the roles you play, the expectations of others and the changes your body or life goes through? Navigating our identity can be confusing, isolating and painful, especially when society tells us we should look, act or feel a certain way. Sometimes, the way we feel we are inside doesn’t seem to reflect how people outside respond to us.

Perhaps you are exploring your sexuality or gender, struggling with your body image or navigating the profound shifts of parenting or menopause. Maybe your self-esteem has taken a hit due to toxic workplace dynamics or complex family relationships.

How we work together

Identity work is about creating an authentic relationship with yourself. I provide a warm, affirming environment where we can safely unpack the messages you’ve internalised about who you should be, so that you can discover who you actually are. We will work on strengthening your self-esteem, setting healthy boundaries and fostering a deep sense of self-worth that carries you through life's major transitions.

My experience in this area

I have held voluntary positions at Mothers for Mothers (a perinatal mental health therapy service) and SWEDA (a specialist eating disorders and body image counselling service), working with clients with a range of different identity-related issues.

I am part of Pink Therapy, the UK’s largest independent therapy organisation, specialising in working with clients across the full spectrum of gender, sex and relationship diversity (GSRD).

As part of this work, I aim to offer skilled, affirming therapy with an understanding of LGBTQIA+ identities, gender exploration and diverse relationship structures.

what to expect from therapy

initial session

The first time you go to therapy might feel daunting or you may have some nerves about what will happen or how it feels to ask for help. This is totally normal. In this initial session, we’ll take things at your pace and focus on what brings you here. I aim to put you at ease quickly so that you can feel comfortable and supported to bring whatever you want to our sessions. We can agree a way forward together to make sure you get what you need from therapy.

A relational approach

My approach is relational, which means that I believe that building an authentic connection between therapist and client is at the heart of effective counselling. The research also supports this approach, showing that the quality of the relationship is the most important factor in how well therapy works. My aim is that you feel that the time you spend with me in therapy gives you an empathic, non-judgemental and trusting space to be your true self, which can also help you understand how you relate to others in your day-to-day life..

Regular reviews

It’s important that you get what you need from our work together. From the start, we’ll build in regular review sessions so that you can think about where you were when you began therapy, how it’s working for you and if your therapy goals have evolved. Planning ahead, we’ll ensure future sessions cover what you need and we’ll keep in mind how our work might end, ensuring that when you do feel ready to finish therapy, it feels like a positive conclusion.
